Kyle Busch one victory from setting Nationwide Series record with 11-win season
Sam Ard didn't do it. Neither did Jack Ingram. Or Dale Earnhardt Jr. Or Martin Truex Jr. Or even Kevin Harvick. No, no driver in the 28-year history of the NASCAR Nationwide Series has won 11 races in a single season. But Kyle Busch could accomplish that feat in this Saturday's Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Clint Bowyer doesn’t plan to play defense as he tries to protect final Chase spot
Before getting a job offer over the phone from Richard Childress as he worked at his job in a body shop in his hometown of Emporia, Kan., Clint Bowyer was a champion at one of the Midwest's top dirt short-tracks. Bowyer will be back racing under the lights this weekend, and he's hoping that the dirt from his past will resurface and help him nail down a berth in the 2010 Chase For The Sprint Cup...

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is the largest motorsports organization in the United States. The three largest NASCAR series are the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series and the Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR also manages NASCAR Regional Racing, the Whelen Modified Tour, and the Whelen All-American Series. NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 39 states, Canada, and Mexico. From 1996 to 1998, NASCAR held exhibition races in Japan, and an exhibition race in Australia in 1988.

Growing from regional entertainment in the Southeastern United States, NASCAR has grown to become the second-most popular professional sport in terms of television ratings inside the U.S., ranking behind only the NFL. NASCAR races are broadcast in over 150 countries. There are 75 million fans who purchase over $3 billion in annual related licensed products. These fans are considered the most brand-loyal in all of sports and as a result, Fortune 500 companies sponsor most NASCAR events.

NASCAR’s headquarters are located in Daytona Beach, Florida, although it also maintains offices in North Carolina. The series was sponsored by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (RJR) in the 1970s.

In 1979, the Daytona 500 became the first stock car race that was wholly nationally televised on CBS. The leaders going into the last lap, Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison, crashed dramatically on the homestretch while jockeying for the lead. Richard Petty passed them both and won the race. As a result, Yarborough, Allison, and Allison’s brother Bobby got in a fistfight on national television. This high stakes action drove fans crazy and helped garner more fans for the now hugely popular sport.
